Learning
INTENT
At All Saints, learning lies at the heart of all that we do. Our teaching and support staff are dedicated to providing the best possible environment in which students can learn and as a result, students make excellent progress during their time with us. Lessons at All Saints are highly engaging and challenging, and students consistently respond to this with a sense of determination and enthusiasm.
At All Saints, we recognise how important it is for our students to achieve excellent examination results to enable them to progress to their next steps. However, we also believe in developing our students to be confident, independent learners. Students are taught how to be resilient, how to work independently, how to manage their time effectively and a range of other important skills which are first introduced in our distinctive PSHCE (personal, social, health, citizenship and economic education) programme and how they are then further developed throughout the curriculum. Students at All Saints are also taught the skills of collaboration and team work and our teaching staff plan regular opportunities to develop these skills in lessons.
Students’ commitment to their own learning is an impressive feature of our school. More than 70% of our students are involved in our student leadership programme which gives students opportunities to take on leadership roles which directly contribute to the success of our school. For example, our ‘learning leaders’ carry out a number of tasks ranging from leading literacy interventions in lessons to tutoring younger students in Maths. Our Cultural Capital programme is also rich and varied, providing genuine enrichment to compliment the standard curriculum.
Most importantly of all, our staff treat all students as individuals and as such, they are absolutely focussed on students’ individual learning needs. Visitors to our school consistently comment on the ‘excellent relationships’ which exist between staff and students and are always impressed by the way in which our students support each other both inside and outside of the classroom.
We pride ourselves on working cohesively as a team to ensure students receive a consistent quality of education. Lessons focus on opportunities to build on prior knowledge, to engage the long term memory, to have a thirst to know and learn more.
