Young Leaders Award: Charity Event 2023
BackAs part of her Young Leaders Award work, Martha decided that she wanted to arrange a fundraiser for charity. On thinking about what she wanted to and for whom she wanted to raise monies, she decided upon a coffee afternoon, with drinks, cake, bingo and a raffle on the day.
In the few weeks before the event, Martha got in touch with the Community Champion at Tesco as well as appealing for donations from friends and family for her raffle, as well as cake baking and volunteers to help her on the day. She advertised her event on social media pages as well as ensuring the event was advertised in all the local shops around Ingleby.
In terms of who she wanted to raise money for; 2023 marks 20 years since Martha’s Grandad passed away following a short battle with Cancer. At the time Teesside Hospice supported her Grandad and family during this difficult time and Martha felt given the significant anniversary it was a cause that was dear to us all and decided she wanted her event to be in memory of her Grandad, so this was the reason she chose Teesside Hospice.
Martha also contacted Nicole from Teesside Hospice about her event, who kindly passed over some balloons and donation boxes as well as being so lovely with Martha when she actually came along to her event as well as when she visited the Hospice with her Mum to hand over the £333.65 she raised.
On the day Martha initiated set up of the room and how she wanted the afternoon to flow, greeting those friends and family who came along to support her, selling raffle tickets as well as bingo cards. Close friends and family were instructed in cake and drink duties! She finished the afternoon off with three games of bingo and the drawing of the raffle with 30+ prizes!
