Senior Prefect Head of House Aidan

Saint Aidan
Back

Hi, I’m Harry and I am incredibly proud to call myself the Head Prefect for St Aidan House this academic year. Alongside my deputy (Abbey), we are aiming to make the most of our time as Aidan Prefects by helping to develop St Aidan House as much as possible, whilst reinforcing its key strengths and values.

Last academic year, St Aidan had the most negative behaviour points and lowest punctuality across the academy. In line with the House Values of Forgiveness and Reconciliation, we are aiming to reduce this over the year through various forms. On the other hand, we also had the highest number of positive points so these will continue to be rewarded and I intend to make sure students who feel their achievements are not recognised are acknowledged.

Throughout my time at All Saints, I have been thoroughly involved in extra-curricular activities, therefore I want to make sure all students in Aidan are aware of the opportunities that are available to them. Whether it be a leadership role such as joining ‘Cornerstone’, representing the school in a competition like the Young Magistrates Mock Trial, or even just going to a P6 once a week, All Saints’ extracurricular activities are highly beneficial and I am going to encourage students to take a step out of their comfort zone and try one out.

Something that goes hand in hand with extra-curricular activities within our academy is the Cultural Capital programme. I have participated with this every year that it has been ran resulting in me being able to see its benefits. This programme has allowed me to develop across all four pillars: culture, skills, leadership and charity. I believe these attributes have not only strengthened me as a person, but also as a leader. Because of this, I am going to promote the programme across the year to aim to have a large number of champions across all years in St Aidan House. This also acts as great evidence for prefect applications and CVs, so the sooner you get started the more you will have to promote yourself in the future!

In my opinion, the most important role I face is to make sure all students within the house feel happy, comfortable and welcome. This isn’t just for Y7- I want everyone in every year to feel safe within St Aidan House. Although the specific prefect team for Aidan consists of myself and the House Deputy, all the other prefects within the House will also be there to help anyone if they just need a friendly face to have a chat with. I have previously participated in various roles that make me suitable for this, such as learning mentors and mental health champions, so if anyone has a problem, they will be made aware of where to go.

Within school, you will probably see me at the front of the hall (or church!) leading an assembly with Cornerstone. I also participate every year in the Mock Trial competition which has developed my understanding of our legal system and given me an insight into a possible career in Law. Both have strengthened my public speaking skills and my self-confidence; I would thoroughly recommend trying out either as they are excellent opportunities for personal development. Academically, I have a passion for the Humanities subjects, resulting in me picking both History and Geography for my GCSEs. I especially love the Roman Empire (despite not being a studied topic) as well as Human Geography. Moral and ethical issues also intrigue me within RE as it links into my interest in Law.

I am excited to be the Head Prefect for St Aidan this year and can’t wait to work with all the students and teachers in Aidan to turn myself and Abbey’s visions for the House into a reality, and hopefully see their fruits as soon as possible.
